When thinking about postural aspects of the body, the Psoas is not really well known or understood by people. There is an understanding of ‘core’ and that ‘core’ is important, but many don’t really know how it works. The Psoas is imbedded in the deep myofascial layers and alongside the skeleton. Ida Rolf showed us that support from the Psoas is important to overall alignment, movement and wellbeing. How does it relate to your client’s body pattern and how they feel in their body?
As it lies at our deepest tissue layer, it can be difficult to approach with our hands. But quite possible, in both direct and indirect ways. What is this beautiful component of our core and how does it work? How does it relate to body issues and comfort? How can we access it in manual therapy? Do we ourselves have a good, clear grasp of the Psoas? Lets find out!
- Anatomy of the Psoas with partnering bone and myofascial tissues.
- Movement awareness activities to sense your own Psoas.
- Facilitate your client to feel where their Psoas is and how to move with it.
- Evaluating variations of body alignment to determine how the Psoas is involved.
- Demonstration of working with the Psoas in a side-lying position.
- Plenty of class time to practiced and exchange with a partner student.
- Alternatives to direct Psoas work.
- Considerations as to the Psoas’s relationship to your client’s symptoms.
