This four-day, 30-hour NCBTMB-approved course introduces bodyworkers to ScarWork, a gentle and effective approach to working with scar tissue. The first two days focus on the foundations: the physiology of injury and healing, the biology of scar formation, and hands-on techniques that support scar tissue in its ongoing transformation toward healthy, integrated function.
The final two days are dedicated to working with real clients who volunteer in the classroom, giving students the chance to apply what they’ve learned with direct supervision and guidance. By the end of the course, participants leave with a new, practical skill set they can use immediately—and the confidence that comes from learning through experience.

About Your Instructor
Joy Carey, M.S., Structural Integrator, brings a depth of experience and a compassionate approach to her teaching of ScarWork, which is a gentle manual therapy developed to support healing and integration of scar tissue. Before her bodywork career, Joy started out as a personal trainer. From the beginning, she has grounded her work with clients in movement education and helping people build functional strength. She holds a master’s degree in Exercise Science. Joy began her hands-on training through a small Structural Integration apprenticeship with Bill Harvey in 2013. In 2017, she became a certified Hellerwork practitioner and has continued to deepen her skills through myriad continuing education courses. For the past five years, she has been devoted to advanced training with ScarWork founder Sharon Wheeler, teaching with Sharon throughout Europe and Asia. Joy is currently studying osteopathy in order to bring a layered understanding of structure, function, and healing to her work with clients and in the classroom. As a teacher, Joy creates a warm, grounded learning environment where practitioners can build skills, ask questions, and expand their ability to support clients in recovery and beyond.
