This class is an introduction to structural myofascial bodywork. Structural myofascial bodywork views the human body as an organized, integrated, physical structure.  Practitioners observe their client in an effort to understand the client’s ‘body pattern.’ They observe how the skeleton, the fascia, and the musculature interplay and support each other. In concert together, these tissues can support a natural alignment and an ease of movement for us humans.

In working, the practitioner’s hands make contact with fascia along with muscle fiber. Your hands feel into the body and down through the tissue layers to separate and “unglue” what has become stuck together. It’s a certain ‘feel’ of the tissue separating and elongating to give the skeleton within more space that is the trademark of myofascial work.

Myofascial work is a wonderful way to address your clients injuries and patterns of postural strain. New understandings of the function of fascia within the body gives both insight to these issues and a very effective means for unraveling them. The work helps your client to integrate in their body.

This class will give an overview of thinking and working myofascially. Students will learn and practice a myofascial session to address the spine. Practitioners of any kind of body therapy can benefit from understanding aspects of myofascial tissue and postural concerns.

What you will learn:

  • Learn basic rules of Fascial anatomy.
  • Learn to connect to and effect the Fascia with your hands.
  • Learn to feel down into the different layers of Myofascial tissue.
  • Learn to recognize Myofascial restrictions and patterns.
  • Learn how to use Myofascial work to address your clients’ body concerns.

Please bring to class:

2 sheets, 2 pillows, 2 towels
Massage cream (not lotion or oil)
Wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move easily.
Bring bathing suit or lycra workout clothing (light colors) that you can feel comfortable in during a structural observation.
